Greg Glassman resigns as CrossFit CEO after controversial statements about George Floyd – CNN

New York (CNN Enterprise)Embattled CrossFit CEO Greg Glassman is resigning right after he sparked outrage over his response to nationwide protests in opposition to racial injustice and law enforcement brutality.

In a statement Tuesday, Glassman reported he decided to retire following he “produced a rift in the CrossFit group and unintentionally harm numerous of its associates.”
“Individuals who know me know that my sole concern is the long-term disorder epidemic,” Glassman reported. “I know that CrossFit is the answer to this epidemic and that CrossFit HQ and its staff provide as the stewards of CrossFit affiliate marketers around the globe. I simply cannot allow my habits stand in the way of HQ’s or affiliates’ missions.”
CrossFit has been embroiled in controversy for the past 7 days — to start with since health and fitness center house owners said they were being dismayed by the company’s failure to quickly put out a assertion expressing solidarity with protesters or assistance for black athletes, as dozens of businesses did in the times adhering to George Floyd’s demise. Then on Saturday, Glassman posted various controversial tweets referencing Floyd’s demise and the coronavirus pandemic.
Glassman that day criticized a statement from the Institute for Health and fitness Metrics and Evaluation calling racism a community wellness situation by responding “Floyd-19.”
In a stick to-up tweet, Glassman said the overall health research institute’s coronavirus design “failed,” and he criticized it for modeling a “resolution to racism.”
Glassman’s tweets pushed Reebok and other manufacturer companions, together with fitness centers, to distance by themselves from CrossFit. Glassman apologized and walked back again the tweets on Sunday, stating that he and CrossFit “will not stand for racism.”
Glassman will be replaced as CEO by Dave Castro, the director of the CrossFit Game titles.
“I am honored to consider on the function of CEO of CrossFit, Inc.,” Castro said in a assertion. “I hope to do ideal by affiliates, trainers, athletes, and other members of the CrossFit community around the entire world and in no way drop sight of the mission Greg set up for us all.”
