Former NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell dead at 41 – NBC News

Former NFL extensive receiver Donald Reche Caldwell died at the age of forty one above the weekend, according to his former group the New England Patriots.

The Patriots tweeted their condolences in excess of studying the news of Caldwell’s dying on Sunday, but did not give particulars on his trigger of demise. Caldwell’s mother, Deborah Caldwell, explained to NBC affiliate WFLA he died on Saturday in the course of an “ambush” in Tampa, Florida.

Caldwell was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2002 after actively playing at the College of Florida. The forty one-year-old signed with the New England Patriots in 2006, creating it all the way to the AFC Championship that period with the franchise’s previous quarterback, Tom Brady. Caldwell dropped two passes in the championship video game from Brady, and the group missing to the Indianapolis Colts.

Previous Patriots teammate Benjamin Watson tweeted about Caldwell on Sunday and said he was sad to listen to of Caldwell’s dying.

In 2015, Caldwell was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison immediately after pleading guilty to a drug demand, in accordance to the Tampa Bay Situations. The former NFL player was identified to have accepted a parcel with one.five kilograms of ethylone in Might of 2014, then investigators identified a parcel he delivered to Atlanta a number of days afterwards with one kilogram of the drug, the Moments claimed.

Caldwell was also detailed as 1 of 10 previous NFL players involved in an alleged medicare fraud plan, according to the Department of Justice in December.
