Eagles vs. Bengals score: Live updates, game stats, highlights as Carson Wentz breaks a Philadelphia record – CBSSports.com

Quite the embarrassing display of football between the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals as both teams played to a 23-23 tie at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday. The Bengals blew a fourth quarter lead as Carson Wentz scored on a 7-yard run to tie the game at 23-23 with 21 seconds left. Wentz struggled throughout the day with his arm (leads the NFL with six interceptions after his third multiple interception game this season), but finished with 65 rushing yards and a score in this one.

Overtime was not kind to Doug Pederson, who has a lot of explaining to do after deciding not to win the game for Philadelphia with 19 seconds left. The Eagles had a 59-yard field goal attempt by Jake Elliott for the win taken away by a Matt Pryor false start to make it a 64-yard attempt. Elliott, who has made a 61-yard kick for a win in the past, didn’t get the opportunity to get Philadelphia its first win of the year as Pederson decided to put the ball away and play for the tie. The Eagles even took a delay of game to give punter Cameron Johnston more room to pin the Bengals, as if Pederson wasn’t aware the game ended in a tie.

The Bengals have played in three ties in their history, two of which have been to the Eagles (both teams tied in 2008). The Eagles also have played to their third tie in their history, their first since 2008 with the Bengals.

Philadelphia goes to 0-2-1 and will be a half game out of first place in the NFC East if the Dallas Cowboys lose — the Washington Football Team lost earlier in the day. Cincinnati snaps its 14-game road losing streak with the tie as the Bengals will also be 0-2-1.

More on his game to follow, but here’s a recap of this game on our live blog below.

What an embarrassing display of football between the Eagles and Bengals. Doug Pederson quit on this team by punting. The Eagles didn’t even try to win this game by Jake Elliott kicking a 64-yard FG (he once kicked a 61 yarder). I don’t know how the Eagles respond from this. The Bengals go to 0-2-1 after blowing a late lead while the Eagles squander multiple chances to win it in OT. They are 0-2-1. Embarrassing display of football today.

It doesn’t matter. Doug Pederson just quit on the game by punting. The Eagles and Bengals are going to tie for the 2nd time in 12 years.

A 64-yard FG by Jake Elliott to give the Eagles the lead with 19 seconds left…

I’ve given Nickell Robey-Coleman a lot of flak, but he made a HUGE play to give the Eagles a chance win it on 2nd-and-16. Takes the first down away and Eagles will have the ball at midfield with 1:49 left.

Penalties end the Eagles drive and we’ll see if the Bengals can win it with 3:03 left. If not, this one may end in a tie.

Big sack by Derek Barnett on 1st down, a hold on Fletcher Cox on 2nd down — or else he would have had a sack — and the Bengals go 3-and-out. The Eagles have 5:45 left to win this thing. Give credit to Cameron Johnston for an awesome punt to set up that series.

The Eagles go 3-and-out, so next Bengals score wins. Eagles defense will have to stop Joe Burrow again.

How huge is it for the Eagles that Darius Slay grinds out an injury and gets the Bengals to punt. An Eagles score wins it.

The Eagles and Bengals are going to OT. Both went to OT in 2008 and the game ended in a tie. Donovan McNabb didn’t know football games ended in ties.

Carson Wentz saves the #Eagles season for now.

7 carries, 61 yards, TD.

Two shy of his career high in rushing yards (63).

Carson Wentz has an opportunity to be a hero here. The Eagles season is literally on the line. Only 7 teams that have started 0-3 have made the postseason. Of course Philly is in the NFC East…

The Eagles defensive line has showed up today. The rest of the unit has not. The Bengals offensive line isn’t good, but everyone on that Eagles defensive line has contributed.

Then Gio Bernard has a 41 yard catch and run with the sticks coverage. On 3rd and 15 no less. Embarrassing.

The challenge by Doug Pederson was a good one. Illegal touching on the Tee Higgins catch after that great Joe Burrow throw took away a Bengals first down. The Eagles have life down 20-16 with seven minutes left.
